March Market wrap up

Hallo, it’s the middle of March already! I’ve just finished up my first 2 markets for the year, back to back. The Kalamunda Garden Festival was on the first weekend of March, followed by the Manning Laneway Festival on WA’s state election!

Kalamunda garden festival was a fabulous day out, they got the BIGGEST turn out with over 10,000 people! Autumn is always the biggest one of the year, but as a precaution they’ll be capping their ticket sales so remember to purchase online for the next one. Unfortunately, with the surprisingly warm weather and humidity I ended up with heat exhaustion. Remember your water and electrolytes, and if you get hot, move & tell someone. I’ll be bringing much more ice, water and maybe even adding a fan to my market kit! My support team of friends, including the wonderful Mel of Rewilding Suburbia who brought me a litre of cool water, plus my husband and mother in law, and the crew at the festival all got me safe and well again.

Manning Laneway Festival was a fantastic evening out on Election night. This community event is run by local volunteers (including myself!) and funded by the City of South Perth and this year’s gold sponsor, Brad Katnich of Acton Belle. With everyone already out for voting, the crowd of locals was a delight! The event showcases local businesses and community groups. We had the Rippers’ Sprint for older kids and young teens on the oval, petting farm, water slide and more! Up in the laneway I was next to the Manning Men’s Shed, the Manning Toy Library, and others.

I had some wonderful little interactions at these events:

The kids who told their dad "we want the bird stickers for mum!", and were reminded they'd only just arrived but if they really wanted them could come back later... To come back an hour later to gleefully purchase the stickers for mum!

The lady who watched them and then snaffled the last bird sticker sheet as soon as they left, very pleased she’d not missed out.

The family who came back to pick out a gift, and ever child wanted a different item from the stall... When Mum spotted the gift boxes. My husband opened to show her the items all wrapped individually and to her delight, had a little of everything! They left very happy with it.

The pair of teachers wandering together who were delighted with the bookmarks as prizes for their students

The little boy who came around with a crocheted sunflower to give to someone, as his mum had 2 left at the shop. He very, very shyly offered it to Violet, who did not want it because she already had the perfect heart flower! Dad took the sunflower and thanked the little kid, and had a chat with their mum.

My next market is Love the Lesch, down in Australind - my hometown! I look forward to seeing you there!
